Things To Consider When Hiring a Wedding Photographer
Ask The Right Questions

Do they offer a pre wedding photo shoot? Do they offer digital enhancements on your images? Do they have a time limit on the day? Does their team consist of two photographers (a man and a woman)? Do these photographers have back-up equipment if theirs fail? Do they give digital negatives (unblocked)? Do they book more than one wedding per day?

Benefits of A Female Wedding Photographer

Winter vs. Summer Weddings
"A benefit of winter weddings is the lower costs, not to mention winter pictures on a warm sunny day, make for great photos!"

Here in South Africa our peak wedding season is September, October, November and December each year. During this time all the chapels, wedding venues, and banquet halls are very busy and usually booked a year in advance. Now, some brides start to plan less than 12 months before their wedding, If this is you, I promise you now you wil have a tough time finding wedding service providers such as photographers and a suitable wedding venue that is not booked.

What Is The Solution? – You might ask.
I say get married in the winter months like June, July or August. The trend these day is to shake things up a bit and brides have proven this to me, by always saying “I don’t want to do the traditional thing” And in my opinion wearing a velvet gown and decorating you banquet hall with winter twinkle lights will give you the the luxury of easier, more beautiful and stress free wedding.

Winter Wedding Photography.
Whether it's a dreary day or there's a bundle of leaves blanketing the ground, bright colors really stand out in the winter because there's no natural colors of flowers and foliage competing and your bridal bouquet will really stand out. At this time of the year lighting is the main issue to consider both indoors and out. Remember that natural light will not be available for as long as usual as it gets darker earlier and this will effect how much the photographer can shoot. Alternatively, plan on having your pictures taken inside where lighting can be pre-arranged. A good photographer will work closely with you and have portable lighting set up and tested beforehand. He/she will have controlled lighting that will produce the desired effect.Choosing a venue that is photographer friendly is important so that you can have great opportunities to be photographed indoors. Even if you can now withstand the cold outside for short times the chances of strong winds are quite high and could easily spoil those beautiful wedding photographs. Ideally your location will have an area for group shot as well as nice discreet spots for your Bride & Groom portraits. This is your chance to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the day to relax and get some of your most memorable pictures of your day!

Budget Savings

Some photographers (depending on their availability) will even give special rates for winter wedding dates. This is a great way to get more of the people and packages you want, within your budget. These special rates usually apply mostly in June and July. Most wedding venue coordinators say the love the fact that they can offer more flexibility in prices and space available for a winter wedding.

The Benefits

Availability of wedding photographers is everything when you’re planning a wedding. By choosing a wedding date that does not land smack-dab in the midst of peak wedding season, you increase your options ten fold. No photographer on earth likes telling a bride that he/she is booked for their wedding day, and so you'll almost always find one that wouldn't love helping you with your winter wedding.
A local florist explained to us that, "Flowers may last longer because there is no heat, if we are taking photos outside for a long period of time." One disc jockey told us, "It’s so much easier to plan a wedding in the off-season, because you don’t have to fight to get the reception hall you want, the DJ, the photographer..." He also says that any couple planning a wedding in a short period of time, would have a much easier time in the winter. If you are concerned about the cold I say, "Dress in long underwear and boots! No one will ever know what's under that gorgeous winter wedding gown!"

In the Bridal magazine one of the authors said the following in an article. "If you want to go somewhere warm on your honeymoon, it's a benefit to get married in the winter." Why go from hot to hotter? Use your honeymoon as your winter escape from the cold.
A local wedding minister pointed out that, "You'll find less people are on vacation in the winter. More guests will be able to attend your wedding... You will also have virtually no rain on your wedding day and this makes way for the perfect wedding photos, I have seen summer weddings with huge showers and wind storms!" And this might spoil your wedding memories

Your Wedding day is a day of joy, laughter and ceremony, so bride and grooms-to-be are understandably  very keen to keep the memories of your special day alive for the rest of your lives. And the best way to do this is with a wedding day story book photo album. In years past many couples had their photos taken by friends and family which were put together in a wedding album. However, celebrity weddings have caught the public's imagination with pictures by top class photographers appearing in the newspapers and magazines.
While the ordinary couple does not have the cash or need to employ a celebrity photographer to take their own wedding photos, there is no doubt that many are now opting to use professional photographers for their big day.

So why should you book a professional photographer for your wedding? A professional wedding photographer will not only take beautiful pictures and make the bride, and the whole occasion, look absolutely glamorous. He or she will produce a wedding album that you will cherish forever. In short, the cash you spend on hiring the photographer will be money well spent.

Before selecting your wedding photographer it is important to check their credentials. After all, not all professional photographers are top class wedding photographers. You can ask friends and family, especially those who have been recently married, who they might recommend. But arguably the best way to find a professional photographer is to go on the internet and look at their websites. There you will be able to look at portfolios of their photographs to see if they are the type of wedding photographer you want to hire.

A wedding photographer, who is an expert in his trade, will prove to be a treasure house of information for you. He will know the best locations for the photo shots and be able to advise on the best kind of shots - either formal, candid or a mixture of the two. He may also offer his services to take photos on the days leading up to the wedding day, allowing your album to contain beautifully taken pictures leading up to the big day.

As wedding days become more lavish and expensive, it would be a pity if the whole event is marred by poor quality photographs in a cheap looking album. Those reasons alone should make it clear why you should book a professional photographer for your wedding day.
